The city that never fails to capture my mind and heart beared some fruit last week
I have been lucky enough to visit NY on many occassions but only in my last two visits have I got to know the city and spend quality time in its many districts. This was also a good visit for getting to see brands I have not seen before, many in their HQ.
The first picture is of Gitman Vintage, a brand leading the charge of making plaid a staple, not just a trend. It also does a beautiful oxford. Below, is Our Legacy, perhaps the best brand I saw over there. What is best ? For me its original yet accessible. APC, not a personal favourite of mine runs them close. There is no way to argue otherwise. APC have a great range for the modern man (& woman). Rag & Bone has my name wriiten all over it, I love it despite the price arguement. It was like walking into santa's workshop for me. If Santa lived in the Meatpacking District!
So which brands to choose for next Autumn ? How do I balance a commercial business with pioneering whilst taking into account my own personal favourite brands ? I have a fair idea of what I need and want to do. They are not the same brand line-ups, need Vs wants. No matter what brands come in, I will say this seasons menswear is the best I have ever seen. It has gone back to 'real' clothes, classics if you will. Plaid is still big, chambray and denim also. Oxford next along with chino and cord.
I said recently to a guy over there that Ireland is so far behind we are almost cool again. The only reality check is that, we have now been lapped. Harsh ? Just think about it a while...
